case studies
Case studies showcase on-farm results of CHRRUP’s projects. They may be useful for landholders wanting to undertake similar projects.
Case Studies
The following case studies are from CHRRUP's Future Drought Fund Project and relate to landscape improvement with a particular focus on drought preparedness.
Adelong used a wide range of soil management strategies to restore degraded gullies and bare land. The result was stabilised soils, reduced erosion, and enhanced land productivity.
Mayfield had success in addressing severe erosion and soil capping through short term, high impact cattle rotation grazing and carefully prioritised and planned rehydration works.
This project highlighted the importance of fence-line and road erosion in fragile soils. By actively participating in fence line erosion control measures and constructing whoa boys, the soil around fences was stabilised, preserving their integrity and functionality.
Coupled with landscape works and the use of technology for forage budgeting, the continued implementation of cattle rotation has led to some recovery in erosion features, an improvement in soil quality and impressive 200% gain in production over 20 years at Glenstar.
Hiddenvale provides compelling evidence of success in addressing erosion and improving production through carefully prioritized and planned rehydration works and rotational grazing. Significant improvements include increased ground cover, reduced erosion, and restored gullies.
